After the Team’s event on Sunday 13th January, well over 100 people stayed on for the NBGC’s annual prizegiving of trophies and prizes for most of the Men’s major events as well as the Mixed Foursomes, the L&Z, the Monthly Medal events and the last TaylorMade event.
James Marshall had a stellar year winning the Club Championship, the Foursomes (with Will Semmens) and the best Scratch record over the Monthly medals for 2018. The very first Super Senior Champion was Graeme Allen. Scott Quinn won the Senior title and came second to James in both the Championship and the Monthly Medal Scratch points record. Maybe you next year, Scotty! Many thanks to Brad McKay for his generous sponsorship of the Medal competitions and Monthly Mug. The winner of the best nett scores over the year in the Monthly Medal was Garry Johnson who had 3 wins in a row (March, April and May) which pretty well locked everyone else out of that competition. John Long won the Medal of Medals, also sponsored by Brad McKay. Barry and Judy Schultz won the Nett Mixed Foursomes as well as the L&Z Chalmers tournament, the last in the present format before it reverts to its original format of points only being awarded to Mixed Pairs not singles. Zelma has agreed to sponsor a perpetual trophy which is yet to purchased but will be an impressive acknowledgement of the Chalmers’ significant contribution to our club over the decades. The Scratch Mixed Foursomes were won by the Ladies Champion, Rhondda Shaw, with Will Semmens. The Nett Foursomes winners were Tim and Shane Maher. Tony Short, John MacDonald and Chris Kelly were the grade winners of the TaylorMade challenge, the last being held due to corporate changes at TaylorMade.
When the Fixtures Book is published for 2019 you will see that the Club Championships will take place over the last 2 weekends in November with the Seniors, the Super Seniors and the Juniors taking place over 2 rounds only. The Ladies had hoped to parallel this timing but were forced into a late change by some late District arrangements. We are also considering making the Team event, prior to the Prize giving on Opening Day 2020, a morning event with the Prize Giving at lunchtime to avoid the inevitable afternoon heat at that time of the year.
A full list of all of last year’s winners and runners up will be posted on the 2 Notice Boards down stairs.
Happy golfing to all our playing members!
